What's New On The Farm
On Wednesday August 22, 2018, Rock Haven Kennels lost a favorite. Known as "100%" or Kate or fully as, Rock Haven Princess Kate, Rocky's beloved English Cocker passed away. Anyone who got to hunt over Kate, knows how she hunted with joy and energy and why Rocky prized her so.
The newly prepared creek bed, known as Kate's Draw, will remember her.
After removing some trees and brush Rocky noticed that the draw reminded him of a hunting area from some years ago. He continued cleaning out the area and last spring planted the draw with upland game bird habitat and is now ready for hunting.
SPECIAL HUNTS IN THE NEW KATE'S DRAW
Rock Haven will be offering special hunts in the draw beginning at the opening of the 2018 season on Mondays or Wednesdays or Fridays for either a morning or afternoon hunt by reservation only. The hunt is mixed bag and scaled for a two man or four man hunt as follows:
The two man hunt includes 20 quail, 3 chukar and 2 pheasant for $500.
The four man hunt includes 40 quail, 6 chukar and 4 pheasant for $1000
The beginning last fall
Miss Tori has been working on the farm helping with chores and livestock care most of her life. Now she is also working with the spring puppy program and helping train the young dogs in the earliest stages of their development. The farm has been a success for generations because of deep southern tradition and family values.
Love grass is one of the newest additions to the farm. We have 22 strips of Love grass planted and doing well. It comes back every year and offers not only a beautiful addition to the landscape but holds birds tight. They can breath more easily than in other more dense cover yet the birds know they are well hidden from predators. It keeps the birds tight and makes for a more exciting hunt. Eventually it will choke out the weeds and leave beautiful strips of soft looking hunting cover.
We take pride in offering the finest of southern upland game bird hunting at Rock Haven Farms. As on any farm, the days are long yet the work is never done. We're constantly changing the landscape to offer more cover and feed plots for both the wildlife and our hunters enjoyment.
We're constantly working to take land we were unable to hunt and create habitat for the birds and wildlife. You can't walk far without seeing deer tracks or recent bedding areas so don't forget the potential to harvest your trophy buck from our farm.
This year we now have 72 feed and cover strips for our hunters bringing in any game natural to this area as well as offering a beautiful setting for our preserve to better serve our clients.
We have incorporated Corn, Milo, Switch grass, 3 different kinds of Millet, Sudan grass, Seresa grass, Bi color Seresa, Sunflowers, Clover, Wheat and many more types of cover and feed strips.
